5. To meet the general conditions determined by the Istanbul University Graduate Education Regulations and the Senate.


Scientific Preparatory Class is offered for those who are not graduates of the Turkish Language and Literature Undergraduate Program and do not meet the necessary requirements.


Foreign Language: There is no foreign language preparatory education.


Vocational Preparation Education: Scientific Preparation Class is offered for those who are not graduates of the Turkish Language and Literature Undergraduate Program and do not meet the necessary requirements.


Double Major, Minor, Joint Diploma: Our department may have the opportunity to do a double major in cooperation with departments such as Linguistics, Contemporary Turkish Dialects, History, Western Languages ​​and Literature, Eastern Languages ​​and Literatures, Sociology, Psychology, Philosophy. Methods of related disciplines are used in master and doctoral dissertations and joint studies can be done. It is possible to cooperate with equivalent diploma programs.

Researching and examining the written and oral products from past to present in the field of Turkish language and literature, which are the basic elements of Turkish culture; to share the obtained information with the society; to play a decisive and active role in relations with other cultures; to train competent scientists and educators in the field.


Purpose and Objective

Gaining the competence to examine and evaluate the periods that our language and literature have gone through, from the beginning to the present, the understanding of art that emerged in these periods, the works put forward in this framework, and the personalities who created them;


Acquiring the ability to write and speak Turkish correctly and beautifully;


Using effective presentation techniques;


To be able to benefit from other social/human sciences such as History, Philosophy, Sociology, Art History, Archeology, Psychology;


Being aware of current problems in the field of language and literature, producing solutions;


To be able to fully comprehend language and literature knowledge, to be able to use this knowledge in accordance with the level of students in the education and training process and for the purpose;


Having a command of the literature on the field, using information technologies effectively;


Ability to use and appropriately catalog information tools such as bibliography and archival sources;


Demonstrate ethical behavior in the identification, research, writing, and evaluation stages of historical research;


To have methods and approaches to conduct comparative language, literature, and culture research;


To have knowledge about cultural science and folklore methods and to be able to use these methods.

Knowledge: To have advanced theoretical and practical knowledge supported by current textbooks, application tools, and other resources in the field. To assimilate and discuss the basic concepts and theories related to the field and to have the knowledge to apply or question this information in the field. To have theoretical knowledge to evaluate written sources related to the field and other sources supporting the field. To have the ability to report and present the data produced and obtained in the field. To have sufficient awareness of the universality of social rights, social justice, quality, and cultural values, environmental protection, occupational health, and safety.


Skill: To have the reflex of establishing and developing the connection of environmental information related to the field. To have the ability to identify problems and propose justifiable solutions by using the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the field. To be able to identify learning needs and be able to meet these needs.


Attitude: To be able to take responsibility as a team member to solve complex and unforeseen problems in the field.

General Conditions for Admission: LYS (TS-2) LYS additional quota, lateral transfer students and foreign students who meet the admission requirements are accepted. There are no specific conditions for acceptance.

Vocational Preparation Training: There is no vocational preparation training.
Double Major, Minor, Joint Diploma: The Faculty of Letters offers a Double Major Diploma. Departments with a different language of instruction may require foreign language proficiency in student admission.

Purpose and Objective: To train competent educators and researchers in the field of Turkish language and literature. To improve the current education conditions and to find solutions to the problems of the field.

6- Having the ability to identify problems and propose justifiable solutions by using the basic knowledge and skills acquired in the field.

7- To take individual initiatives to ensure appropriate communication, taking into account all possibilities related to the field.

9- To be able to take responsibility as a team member to solve complex and unpredictable problems related to the field.

To be able to teach and supervise these values ​​by considering social, scientific, and ethical values ​​in the stages of collecting, interpreting, and announcing the data related to the field; be able to systematically convey the current developments in the field and their own studies to groups in and outside the field, in written, verbal and visual formats; to be able to examine the concepts and ideas in the field with scientific methods, to interpret and evaluate data, to define and analyze problems, to develop solutions based on evidence and research, are the acquisitions related to program qualifications and National Qualifications Framework.

Strengths and Weaknesses of the Program

Strengths

Being a well-established institution with a tradition, having faculty members who have a say in the field, being in a city where there are libraries related to the field of Turkish Language and Literature and being close to these libraries, our graduates working in many institutions and organizations; offer a variety of job opportunities to our new graduates.

Weaknesses

The inadequacy of the space used for educational activities, the lack of foreign language preparatory classes, the fact that our students who are successful in the vocational field cannot pass the foreign language threshold in their postgraduate education applications, and the fact that most of the general resources of the program have not been transferred to the digital environment yet reveals the problem of not making the most of the technological developments.

Graduation Requirements

For our students, in order to graduate from the program during their education period, the student must complete 240 ECTS, 75% of which consists of compulsory and 25% of elective courses, and the General Weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) must be at least 2.00. Graduates of the diploma program receive the title of “Turcologist”.
